Penny Stone

Partner and Chartered Architect

Formed Penny Stone Architect in 1988 and The Stone/Beattie Studio in 1990.

Educated at Girls High School, Harare, Zimbabwe, she obtained a Certificate in Architecture and Postgraduate Diploma in Architectural Studies after studying at the University of Natal, South Africa and the Mackintosh School of Architecture, Glasgow University, Scotland.

Penny has served on the Board of the Institute of Architects and the Architects Council of Zimbabwe, and Chaired the Educational Committee of the IAZ which is responsible for running the Professional Practice examinations which lead to registration as an Architect in Zimbabwe.

Richard Beattie

Partner and Chartered Architect

Raised and schooled in Kenya and Scotland, he graduated from the Mackintosh School of Architecture, Glasgow University with an Honours Degree and Post Graduate Diploma in Architecture gaining work experience in the United Kingdom, Zimbabwe and Malawi prior to the formation of The Stone/Beattie Studio in 1991.

Richard has served on the Board of the Institute of Architects and the Architects Council of Zimbabwe, has represented these institutions on the Model Building By-laws Variations Committee, National Joint Practice Committee and Harare Inner City Partnership and numerous Standards Association of Zimbabwe technical committees, many of which he has Chaired.

A practicing arbitrator and past Secretary of the Zimbabwe Arbitration Association and the Zimbabwe Chapter of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, he is architectural advisor for the National Gallery of Zimbabwe and The National Trust of Zimbabwe.



Bokani Munodawafa

Partner and Registered Architect

Born and raised in Mutare and educated at Victoria High School, Masvingo, and Prince Edward School, Harare, Bokani completed his Bachelor of Architectural Studies and a Master of Architecture at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. 

Having joined The Stone/Beattie Studio in 2011 as an Architect Assistant, Bokani registered with the Architects Council and became a member of the Institute of Architects of Zimbabwe in 2019, and was appointed Associate of Stone/Beattie in 2021. In 2022 he became a full partner through the formation of Stone/Beattie/Munodawafa Architectural Studio.

Bokani is an avid artist who enjoys oil paint art, restoring old paintings, and creating digital portraits. At the 2022 IAZ Awards Scheme he won the award for Emerging Architect.
